Harlequin's Winter Blog Tour: Good Girls Lie
Happy New Year, book friends! If you're burnt out on Christmas romances and feel-good holiday stories, then boy, I have the ultimate palate cleanser for you. Seriously.
Good Girls Lie by J.T. Ellison is part of Harlequin's mystery/thriller lineup, and I had the chance to read and review it last month. Check out the synopsis and my review below!
Synopsis
Perched atop a hill in the tiny town of Marchburg, Virginia, The Goode School is a prestigious prep school known as a Silent Ivy. The boarding school of choice for daughters of the rich and influential, it accepts only the best and the brightest. Its elite status, long-held traditions and honor code are ideal for preparing exceptional young women for brilliant futures at Ivy League universities and beyond. But a stranger has come to Goode, and this ivy has turned poisonous.
In a world where appearances are everything, as long as students pretend to follow the rules, no one questions the cruelties of the secret societies or the dubious behavior of the privileged young women who expect to get away with murder. But when a popular student is found dead, the truth cannot be ignored. Rumors suggest she was struggling with a secret that drove her to suicide.
But look closely…because there are truths and there are lies, and then there is everything that really happened.
J.T. Ellison’s pulse-pounding new novel examines the tenuous bonds of friendship, the power of lies and the desperate lengths people will go to to protect their secrets.
Thoughts
WOW. This book is nuts. I love a good thriller, but when you read too many of them, sometimes you start guessing twists and nothing shocks you anymore. That didn't happen here. This was my first book by J.T. Ellison and I really enjoyed it.
Here's what you can expect from Good Girls Lie:
murder mystery intrigue
crazy private school antics that make me thankful I went to public school
high school drama; e.g., Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl, Riverdale
illicit romance
an unreliable and very intriguing narrator
spooky ghost stories
and lots more, but I won't say what because *spoilers*
There's a lot going on in this book; plot points pile one on top of the other and things get pretty crazy. Depending on the thriller, I like to have the story firmly grounded in reality, or I just go with the flow and get swept up in the drama. Good Girls Lie requires you to do the latter. Enjoy the twists and turns, the spooky murder mystery, and the entertaining characters. Though the middle of the story dragged a little for me, overall I thought this was a great mystery/thriller.
Thank you Harlequin for allowing me to take part in their winter mystery/thriller blog tour! If I convinced you to read Good Girls Lie, head to your local indie bookstore to pick it up (because #shoplocal). Or, check the links below to grab a copy of your own!
